"This book of approximately 450 pages is an excellent review of the current state of the field of small animal cardiology. It is comprehensive and very thorough, up to date, has a scientific approach as well as being clinically oriented and it is very enjoyable to read. This book is an amazing accomplishment in the reviewer's opinion! (...) About the Author
Francis W.K. Smith, Jr., DVM Diplomate ACVIM is board certified in both internal medicine and cardiology and is a clinical assistant professor at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. He is Vice-President and co-founder with Dr. Tilley of VetMed Consultants, Inc.
Larry Patrick Tilley, DVM, Diplomate ACVIM is President, VetMedConsultants, Inc. in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Dr. Tilley has been one of the foremost consultants and educators in veterinary cardiology for nearly 20 years. He is also well known as the author of the popular book, The 5-Minute Veterinary Consult (the Wiley-Blackwell publication that launched an entire series of 5-minute books) with Dr. Smith. Tilley is a popular presenter at veterinary conferences nationally and internationally. As Dr. Smith’s co-founder of CardioPet in 1980, Dr. Tilley has been a driving force behind telemedicine and its development as a service devoted to consultant expertise and continuing education.
Meg Sleeper VMD graduated from the University of Pennsylvania veterinary school cum laude in 1993. She is an associate professor of cardiology and was section chief from 2001 through 2011. Dr. Meg Sleeper has published numerous papers including over 70 peer-reviewed original papers, over 50 review papers or case reports, and 4 books. In addition to lecturing at conferences including the American Heart Association, the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Forum, the Keystone Veterinary Conference, the World Feline conference and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), she has been the coordinator for the small animal cardiology section at the AVMA conference since 2009. She has trained 18 veterinary cardiologists through their residency programs at the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School. In 2015 she joined the faculty at the University of Florida veterinary school.
Dr. Sleeper is on the editorial or review board of 11 journals and has served on the research (2008-2011) and examination (2005-2008) committees for the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology). In early 2011, she was appointed to the Great Ape Heart Project. This project is focused on improving cardiac health in the 4 ape species (Chimpanzees, Gorillas, Bonobos and Orangutans).

Title: Great text and illustrations but video clips lacking.

Review: Detailed information and excellent illustrations and pictures. Although something that could have been added would have been a connection to a digital version of this book, so that echocardiographic videos can be seen. This is the case with Textbook of Clinical Echocardiography (by Catherine M. Otto); this is a book for human echo, but the equivalent to this in veterinary medical textbooks would indeed be advantageous.
